Well done Alvaro Posada-Borbon for successfully defending his Masters project, having previously done a great job on a summer project! In the first project he worked on adsorption and hydrogenation of ethylene on a range of Pd clusters and surfaces, investigating the role of surface structure and undercoordination on reactivity. In the latter project, he was concerned with the adsorption and internalisation/mixing of clusters into metal oxide surfaces.
Cluster-Surface Interactions 2016
I was lucky enough to be able to visit the binannual CSI conference, hosted this year at Argonne National Labs in Illinois, thanks to receiving an Åforsk travel grant. I delivered a poster entitled “Catalytic Hydrogenation of Ethylene – From Clusters to Extended Surfaces“, which included some of Alvaro’s work.
